YES!

Hear me out, please – fo rthose of you that are rushing to hit the delete button.

The “delete” button won’t run away (as I keep telling my daughter “Finish your food first! The dumbphone won’t grow legs and run away, hehe”).

Now, for those not accquainted with the cricket world, here is a bit of a tidbit.

Virat (or VEEEEErat depending upon how you pronounce it, hehe and the Aussies do it the best! ;)) Kohli, whose currently probably the best batter out there in the world took time off to “be with his wife for the birth of their newborn).

(His wife is a Bollywood actress, for those interested, and from what I gather a mighty successful person in her own right …)

(As for the “best batter in the world” tag – yes – I understand. Thats a contentious issue, and dependent upon OPINION to a degree. He’s got plenty of competition snapping at his heels – an Aussie named Steve Smith and a Kiwi named Kane Williamson for one … but NUMBERS WISE? FACTS wise? Gotta give it to Virat. Facts dont lie, bro – and as the republican senator I believe in Georgia recently said, neither do numbers”.

And the numbers Kohli has racked up over the years is mind boggling to say the least.

Easily an all time great (contentious I know, but hear me out).

So India is currently playing one of their toughest opponents in their backyard – the Aussies!

They lost the first series, despite Kohli being there. And playing well.

They won the first match of the second, despite the Virat not playing that well.

Says tomes doesnt it?

A great leader, or a great man (and lets face it, in his profession Virat IS Great) doesnt necessarily need to “do”.

He does, but his value extends way beyond that.

And he’s taking off pretty soon to be with his wife for his first child.

This brought mixed reactions.

Sunny Gavaskar, another INDIAN LEGEND – now he’s a TRUE LEGEND! – said that sort of thing didnt happen back in his day (i.e. boards didnt allow their players to go back for that sort of thing in general).

HE was there for the birth of his son, but that was more because he was injured (its a long story) and couldn’t play, and flew home at his own expense and got permission to do so …

Others have come out and said Kohli has done the right thing.

My thoughts?

Mixed.

First, there is NO feeling in the world to be there for the birth of your child.

I was there. And I can tell you, that little “wiggle biggle” (as I call my daughter, hehe) staring at you with those big eyes as soon as she (or he) is “out”?

Indescribable, and one of the moments in life you LIVE for.

So in that regard, I’m with Virat.

But really, what Sunny said, and the vibe behind it should be taken into consideration.

Now those were tough times – and they were real men!

Sunny Gavaskar for one facing up to the feared West Indian pace attack that would make people run away just by looking at them – let alone facing up (a tiny man in comparison by stature was Sunny) and having a hard, solid 8oz or so concussion causing, life ending (sadly, that has happened too!) cricket ball thrown at you on uncovered pitches for hours.

It wasn’t for nothing that they wrote songs about him in Calypso land!

That was when men had “hair on their chests”. Hehe.

Ian “Beefy Botham” for one.

Or that marauder Matthew Hayden … (though he was closer to this time than the above two).

Or “Boonie” who once famously drank 52 cans of lager on an Australia -England flight.

Am I saying any of that is “good or bad”?

NO, but it’s what men do by nature, bro!

And the current move towards “caring and nurturing men” is fine, but a lot of goes AGAINST the grain of what Nature intended.

It’s possible to be uber macho and yet care!

And if you’re playing for your country, and the team is DEPENDENT upon you – and in a big series, then personally although I can see Virat’s point and sort of agree, then you just man up and take it on the chin.

The last Indian captain was in the midst of a world cup when his son showed up, and he only knew it was a son (or he knew via text, I should say) two months later (I mean he SAW his son two months later I believe).

The current move towards sissification (and no I’m not saying Virat is that at all) is NOT one which I “admire”.

Goes against Nature. NOT what women want either!

Yours truly has been labeled “macho man” by many.

Rightly so.

Doubt you’d even have thought I changed diapers eh?

But it’s happened, hehe, and I still joke with my 7 year old about it.

Doubt you’d thought I’d ever “feed my daughter” eh.

But it happens on a regular basis when she’s with me!

And so forth.

It IS possible to be a real man and “care”.

But the current move towards sissified males and “beta” nutzos has me mystified.

And back to Virat, if you really look at what he public is thinking deep down inside, I believe you’ll understand that people yearn for the OLD DAYS NOW.

Deep down inside, fitness wise, you KNOW whats macho my friend. And what works!

Pull-ups, for one, make you feel like a REAL MAN (or woman).

Handstand pushups!

Bear crawls.  (truly WILL TURN YOU INTO and make you FEEL like an ANIMAL, a BEAST, a TRUE FORCE OF NATURE!)

The much ignored Hindu squat.

Getting back to basics.

And just buckling down and just doing it, regardless of anything else!

Men, my friend, REAL MEN were MEANT to be macho. Even if that means yours truly at the age of 5 trying to lift what he couldn’t, because “lifting is a man’s job”, hehe.

And being ridiculed for it, which I still am to an extent.

Jay, a friend of mine had this to say with a mixture of “admiration” and “pseudo scorn” upon looking at the 0 Excuses fitness page.

“I go to the gym, bro! But not like YOU WORKOUT! Macho man!”

Well, you should, my friend.

You should.

And there endeth this long ass “sermon” of sorts. Hehe. But I had to get that off my chest, and now I have!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

PS – Virat Kohli, by the way is a prime example of “just doing it”. He used to be one of the unfittest kids on the block until he “just did it”, and keeps on just doing it. Yes, teeth gnashers. I know. I know. How dare I say it. But it’s true, and it’s key behind greatness of any nature, shape or form in any field!

PS #2 – If you’re tired of feeling wimpy and run down all day long – CHANGE that. And do so via the TWO exercises mentioned above. HERE is the first course that will get you feeling great – and here is the second. BOTH WITHOUT COMPARISON! OR peer …

PPS – I think I made a new word up there, hehe. Can you spot it?

PPS #1 – I realize some of you might call me a “misygonist” (however the hell you spell that) or “male chauvinist” for stating the obvious and thats fine as well, but am I “wrong”? I dont think so, my friend! But yes, I’m glad to have that added on to the long list of names I’ve already been called, hehe.
