I used to learn Tae-kwon-do back in high school- well, middle actually.

And it got me in pretty good shape even at that age of being told to “lift pink dumbells to get strong” (well wait. That was at the age of 17 when I wanted to “pump” them biceps just like the movie stars on screen, most of whom who years later look anything but what they did – Arnie being one prime example, but hey, you know that!)

(And Stallone being the rare case that DOES stay in shape, and how!).

Anyway …

Taekwondo is often derided by boxers and ji-jitsu guys are being useless in the real world in terms of fighting, and they’re probably right to an extent (unless you’re a Black belt at it).

Probably a step over kung fu shung fu …

But point isnt’ that.

Point being, pushups.

Our instructor was a tough, tough dude.

And after all the kicks, stretches and LEG exercises (talk about a core workout!) he put us through pushups, which of course no-one wanted to do.

Just 10, but that was apparently a chore for most.

Yours truly, for whatever reason did them like they were supposed to be done without knowing it.

Chest all the way to the floor. Pause. Back up – all the way, and I can still remember our instructor go “1”! “2!”

When he’d come to me, he’d look at me with that look in the eye.

“Good!” he’d say.

Pity I didnt continue doing it in high school . Pity I never got any encouragement to do so as opposed to the BS regarding grades etc. UGH!

Anyway, while we were stretching one day … the forward version of the splits where one guy “opens your legs up fully”.

I’ve made no secret of the fact my genetics are shitty, and my hamstrings and groins have always been tight and NOT loose (probably from being forced to “sit and read” from a young, young age).

(The opposite of my daughter hehe).

And so while the guy was prying my legs open, and I was squealing in agony, the instructor looked at me and grinned.

And then to the other dude, he said.

“give to him! Stretch him out fully – he can take it!”

And he probably noticed something, hehe.

And then on to the topic of training, and DEDICATION. And students skipping classes (many did).

And the other dude spoke up.

“Sir, it’s about training daily – come rain, come hail, come shine!”

(The above said in Hindi, but thats the sum and substance and GIST of it!)

And we got that look of approval again, and our instructor was RIGHT in givng us that look.

THAT is real dedication.

Flash forward to 2016, when yours truly used to truly climb the hill in POURING rain and worse.

I’ve mentioned how trees sometimes fell around me, and it ain’t no exaggeration either.

“Dad, do you climb in a category 3 hurricane”, my daughter will often ask.

I grin back.

“yes, but not 4. Well, not really. But 5 – no way!”

She giggles back. “You’re not that crazy!”

Well, maybe I am.

I still remember being soaked to th ebone, and slogging up that hill in torrential rain. Downpour. What have you.

GETTING HER DONE, while no-one else would. Well, maybe a solitary straggler, but no more than that.

The shoes squelching out water.

All the while wanting to quit, but much like the Undertaker slowly but surely making his way to the squared circle … NOT QUITTING.

Getting it – her – – DONE!

And then the trek back home.

And anotehr great one in the books.

THAT, even if I say so myself is dedication.

THAT spirit is what I want in YOU – in terms of life – fitness – whatever.

And THOSE are the type of people I sell to.

No excuses pally. Get after it – now!

And as I sit here after sprints and pull-ups, I feel great, and am off to the shower. More later – but remembver – what can’t break you will always, without exception, make you stronger in every way!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

PS – Perhaps the gene of doing pushups was always lying dormant in me, hehe. And perhaps thats why I came out with th ebest damned course ever, a course NO-ONE can TOUCH in terms of the sheer NUMBER of exercises therein and the variety and the workouts and a course that will whoop your ass into shape quick. Check it our right here – – Pushup Central.

PS #2 – And no, you don’t got to be that extreme to do my stuff. Start slow – before you know it, you’ll be in great shape, and pumping out more yourself!

(pun NOT intended, hehe). But it’s true! 😉
